Since when did parody care about fair play?
For those who may not watch the adult cartoon “South Park”, it has seen its share of controversy. It’s 200th episode was no different. The main theme of the show was a mockery of Muhammad. I encourage you to go read this story if you aren’t familiar with what happened, and then come back. I’ll wait…
What I cannot wrap my head around is the fact that the censors have never once bleeped out “Jesus Christ”. Jesus is regularly mocked on not only South Park but many other shows as well including Fox’s The Simpsons and Family Guy.
Yet one mere mention of Muhammad inspires credible death threats which include addresses to the where the show is made? Furthermore, it inspires the censors in the following episode (#201) to literally bleep out every mention of Muhammad and censor the depiction of him with a black censor bar.
It makes no difference, for this story, which religion you follow; everyone should be outraged and the blatant duplicity and appalled at the stripping down of First Amendment rights. If they can mock Jesus Christ then they can mock Muhammad…or neither.
But just mocking one and censoring the other is unacceptable by any standard.
