X3 Church- Great Expectations

“In a word, I was too cowardly to do what I knew to be right, as I had been too cowardly to avoid doing what I knew to be wrong.”
Pip from Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.

Many people have compiled many stats on pornography.  Take Luke Gilkerson from Covenant Eyes for example:  In this blog post he provides us with a detailed analysis of porn users broken down by sex, race and age.  He has just under 100 footnotes!  But there is one stat that I truly wonder about:

How many virgin boys and men look at porn?  How many future husbands are watching the most extreme forms of sexual intercourse sprinkled with degradation and humiliation and have never experienced actual sex before?

For the sake of argument, let’s say there is a percentage of men who view porn who have also never made love.  What kind of “great expectations” and demands do you think they will have the first time they are with a woman?  Well, if they get their cues from porn then they will be sadly disappointed and confused.

For one, they will discover that a woman has sexual needs and desires.  Most modern porn omits this major fact from their movies.  Secondly, they will discover that sex is not just about pneumatic grinding but about love and romance and two people expressing that love in the most beautiful and intimate way possible.

Finally, they will discover that real love involves communication, work, sacrifice and generosity.  When a man is more concerned about pleasing his mate than he is about pleasing himself…he will in return have the best and most fulfilling sexual experience he can ever have.

When a man is utterly selfish and only worried about his needs and his desires…he will find sex is nothing more than a temporal physical pleasure that leaves him empty and unfulfilled.

So I guess I do agree with pornographers on one thing…the kind of sex they portray is certainly fantasy; however, the pleasure they depict is also fictional…Great Expectations indeed!
