Matthew 5:1-16

This section of Matthew contains the famous “Beatitudes”   Some quick notes on this section:

The teachings of Jesus in this section represent the complete antithesis of the world’s teachings, even back in that time period.  Also, later on in the section, when Christ talks about salt that has lost its taste being thrown out and trampled under the foot of man He was using an illustration that many in that time would have recognized; pure salt never looses its taste and is good for preserving but mineral salt found in and around the Dead Sea was so tasteless that it could only be thrown along walking paths to help control the growth of wild vegetation.
