WD-40 and Jesus

It’s amazing how just a little WD-40 can make things so much smoother…

For about the last three months my wife Jamie and I have been struggling to get our key in the door…literally.  We would hold the doorknob with one hand whilst using the other to gently push our key in; it had to be just right.

I felt like I needed a geometric proof and a graphing calculator just to find the correct angle to unlock my own door.

Oddly enough we knew what the problem was: the keyhole simply needed some WD-40.  Yet somehow we never found the time to drop by Wal-Mart (literally within walking distance of our house) and pick up a can.  Instead we fought the lock day in and day out.

Think of how much frustration, energy and even dropped groceries we could have saved with one 5 minute trip to the store to buy a $3.00 can of “Water Displacement 40th Attempt”.

As silly as it sounds, we do the same thing with our day to day lives.  Think of how many times we swim upstream trying to get what we want, what we think will satisfy us and how much guilt, shame and disappointment results when we either don’t get what we had hoped for or we do get it but we are still left unsatisfied.

God tells us in Matthew 6:33 to seek Him first and He will take care of all our needs.  Paul practically applies that point in Philippians 4:11-13 when he says that no matter what he has learned to be satisfied with what he has and where he is currently at because he can do all things through Christ.

So I urge you friends, don’t wait.  If your lock is rusty…get some WD-40; if your soul is corroded…open your Bible (don’t worry, if your Bible is squeaky, it doesn’t need any WD-40…just one to two uses a day will keep the rust and dust away)
