“Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.”
-Babe Ruth
Life is filled with choices; where we work is a major life decision that impacts almost every facet of our life. It is one that should be carefully considered and be given its due weight.
The truth is I have made some very poor, impulsive choices regarding my work life. I have accepted high level positions in industries (such as the movie theater industry) I should have never accepted; furthermore, I have also failed to put in a full day’s work even though I was given a full day’s pay.
So, what did I learn from making such bad decisions? Well, here are a few things:
-
I learned that before I take a job I need to truly consider all the pros and cons. I need to consider how this job will affect both my short and long term goals. A rise in salary and position does not mean a rise in quality of life.
-
I learned that I must seek out the will of God and the counsel of wise friends before making a major decision.
-
I learned that despite what others do around me…if I don’t put in an honest day’s work for an honest day’s wage…I am a thief.
Now, I am far from perfect and I still have a long way to go to become the model manager/employee…but I hope my past experiences will help you take a step in the right direction.
