So, all this time the experts have been telling us that the financial sector crashed due to the so-called “Housing Bubble” bursting amongst other things (such as big banks placing too much emphasis in risky investments, etc…) but now we know the truth.
It turns out that the big wigs over at the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) were more worried about checking out boobs than balance sheets. You see, it is part of the SEC’s job to monitor and help ensure proper procedures are being followed by publicly traded companies.
Part of doing that job involves using government issued computers; it turns out they were watching porn on those computers instead of watching the financial market. Here is a great article over at The Huffington Post on the issue (click to open in a new window).
As they rightly point out, this points to a much bigger problem in America today and that is porn addiction. Anyone who has been a reader of The Discourse for any amount of time knows I have written extensively on the subject of porn and porn addiction.
Some part of these SEC executives knew that by looking at porn at work… on a government computer… they would get caught; it was a high risk low reward investment and as any good investor will tell you those type of investments should be avoided.
The truth is they didn’t care; They were so into their addiction…so into the temporal haze that porn placed over them that getting caught took a back seat to pleasure and lust.
The Bible teaches us that sin starts in the mind but once fully grown it leads to death; a death of the conscience. An inability to discern right from wrong, truth from fiction, reality from fantasy caused these men to risk it all…their reputation, their jobs and perhaps their freedom; all for just a little glance.
Next time I advise they just do a Sudoku…or better yet they could actually do their job. Now they, and to a lesser extent all of us, must face the consequences of their actions.
