…these three are for some lifelong goals which turn into deserted, dead-end roads trapping those who seek them to a life of emptiness and sorrow…
Another way it has oft been phrased is: pleasure, power and position.
“Look how many people report to me; look at my title”. “We live in the big house in the nice part of town. I drive the newest model of the best car out there.” “I have been with the most beautiful women in the world. I can get any man I want.”
While I cannot lie and say I have not been tempted by all three, I can say undoubtedly that each one carries with it only temporal pleasure and nary a trace of lasting fulfillment is to be found on this well worn asphalt.
One need only examine the lives of the following: Anna Nicole Smith, Howard Hughes, Health Ledger, Marilyn Monroe, etc… to see that this glittery road of fame, fortune and pleasure has but 4 left turns and two exits: Death or Life.
Jesus was tempted by all of the above, and He used the truth of Scripture to beat back their honey-coated lies every time. I humbly submit to you that if you are currently seeking something deeper, richer, truer and most of all everlasting than you aren’t going to find it in any of the above, but only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Take it from someone who has made the mistake of seeking it through pleasure, power and position…it never lasts and only leads to a deep sadness in the end. Choose Life…the exit is just up ahead on the right.
