Today's morning reading covers wealth and worry. Some interesting notes on today's selection:
Christ teaches that we are not to store up treasures here on Earth. This does negate our responsibility to be good stewards with what we are entrusted. Rather, it is speaking of an inward attitude towards material possessions which will eventually corrode or rust. We are to use our treasures (along with our time and talent) for heavenly, eternal matters.
Jesus reminds his followers that no matter how much you worry, you aren't going to live one moment longer than God wants. Instead of worrying about tomorrow, focus on what you can get accomplished today. Again, this doesn't mean we cannot and should not plan for the future; however, planning (the careful detailing of what you want to accomplish on a certain day, focusing on matters within your control) is much different than worrying (wondering if matters outside your control will work together to produce favorable results).
Also, Christ teaches that God knows our needs and if we seek first His kingdom than we will be taken care of. This does not mean necessarily getting everything we want or even being comfortable but instead points to an internal state of joy, happiness and lasting fulfillment knowing the fruits of such labor produce eternal, not temporal, results.
