Bible 365-Day 5-Morning

Matthew Ch. 4

Matthew 4 tells us about Christ’s temptation by Satan, the start of his public ministry, and his calling of the first disciples.  As JM stated in the introduction to the gospels, Matthew was not as concerned with a correct chronology as say the historian Luke, so he does leave some details out.  Some interesting notes on Matthew Chapter 4:

Prior to being tempted, Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights; since He was fully man there is no doubt he was physically hungry and thirsty.  Whenever Christ answered Satan, He answered from Deuteronomy.

Matthew, as aforementioned, skips a few points in verses 12-17 because his main point was to show his Jewish audience that fulfillment of an OT (now and forevermore OT=Old Testament) prophecy

When Jesus calls Peter and Andrew, it was not the first time He had met them.  JM notes that Luke records a time when He had ministered in that area before.
