Today’s reading covers the death and burial of Sarah, the finding of a bride for Isaac, the choosing of Rebekah for Isaac’s bride, her subsequent marriage to Isaac, and the death of Abraham. Whilst the majority of this reading was expository there were a few interesting notes:
Sarah is the only woman in all of scripture to have her age recorded upon her death.
Abraham’s chief servant (the one who finds Isaac’s bride) was the rightful heir to all of Abraham’s fortune before the birth of his sons, however, instead of getting angry or jealous he serves both Abraham and Isaac faithfully.
JM notes that when Abraham purchased the field (which contained the cave he wanted to bury Sarah) from Ephron it was significant; after years of nomadic wondering Abraham finally purchased land in the area that God had promised to him.
