So, most of us have heard about the now infamous Balloon Boy hoax where a family cooked up an insane stunt involving a bad Mr. Wizard balloon rig and a poorly done home video done in the classic "Blair Witch" mondo style.
Well, the dad (Richard Heene) plead guilty to a felony charge of "attempting to influence a public official" while the mom plead guilty to filing a false police report, a misdemeanor. I truly wonder if this will teach them a lesson or if they will cook something else up, I mean, I can't imagine any company actually wanting to hire these folks.
Although the entire situation is a bit crazy, there are still some things about it that baffle me. First, why would you trust a child to keep such a secret through round after round of interviews. I certainly don't want to be a Monday Morning "Hoax-er" Back but for goodness sake keep the child as far away from the media as possible if it was all a goof. Secondly, what in the world was up with the Dad and the whole press conference situation? First he does want to hold a press conference , then he doesn't want to hold one, then he wants everyone to put their questions in a box. (Although, it wasn't a box, it was a BOX LOBSTER!)
Then the coup d'état, the forever classic line "You said we did this for a show"...BUSTED BY WOLF! Why would you tell your kid that, he doesn't need to know the why or the what, just hide him for a few hours, then, as aforementioned, keep him far far away from the media. I swear, people just don't know how to plan a hoax these days, right Orson?
