Wired Weekend-2

Blogs can contain some very useful information; however, who has time to visit all their favorite blogs?  Syndication has made keeping up with your favorite author a lot easier.

RSS?   What language are you speaking?  Don’t worry, I will explain.  RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”.  It basically allows a blogger to deliver his blog directly to you in real time.  No longer do you have to visit your favorite blog everyday and wonder whether or not he or she has anything new.

If I may, picture your favorite blog as a tasty pizza.  In order to get your pizza, you can either drive to the pizzeria and pick it up OR you can have it delivered.  Now, picture RSS as the pizza delivery guy.  RSS delivers the blog directly to you so you don’t have to get dressed and go out.

Now most of you are thinking “I want tasty pepperoni blogs delivered to my doorstep, how do I do it?”  Well, number one no one said anything about pepperoni, so calm yourself.  Secondly, its so easy a ca…nevermind that slogan is ta’en.

Basically, most blogs have a “Subscribe to this blog” link, or something similar.  If you use Firefox, you can use “Live Bookmarks” which are basically bookmarks that update in real time.  There are also plenty of other “RSS Readers” out there you can use.

So what is ATOM?   ATOM is simply another type of syndication that competes with RSS, but on the layman’s level, they both do pretty much the same thing; they bring tasty blogs to you, so you don’t have to go to them.  It’s like breakfast in bed.

Here is my feed so you can subscribe to my blog.
Here is a crash course video explaining the above post.
Have a great weekend.
