Ch 5. Supply and Demand

Which came first the supply or the demand?  Who holds more culpability, producers/distributors or consumers?  That is the question we will examine in this post.

It is truly impossible to know how much money the porn industry generates per year; however, even the most conservative of estimates puts it in the billions. If you read my post “Done That” I discussed the average rate of a female porn star per scene is anywhere between $400-$2000 depending on what the scene calls for, her star power, and other varying factors.

It is without a doubt a very small piece of the porn pie.  So who is pocketing all this cash?  Producers, Distributors and owners of websites make the majority of the money;  even after overhead they make more than enough cash to live comfortably: larger adult film companies, such as Vivid, Evil Angel, and others make millions of dollars a year off of their product.

There is only one reason they make money; someone is buying their product.  Let us reinvent what a purchase is in order to solidify a point.  Next time you buy something, whether it be porn or pizza, think of it as a letter of affirmation to the company.

You know how when something goes wrong you write the company a complaint letter right?  So, when you purchase a product, you are essentially doing the opposite.  (specifically referring to repeat purchases, not first timers)

So, if an actress comes out and says that she was pressured, coerced, degraded, abused or in any other way mistreated while making a porn movie and you still choose to buy or view said movie, what are you telling the production companies?  It is ok to mistreat your talent, I will still buy your product.

Also, don’t be fooled into thinking that if you only watch the free stuff online you are not supporting the industry.  Porn companies make a ton of money off of referral and advertising programs.  Every mouse-click is more money in their pocket.

The point is, if it makes money, it will be made.  As long as you keep clicking those websites and keep buying up those DVD’s, there will be a supply to meet your demand.  And as your porn addiction waxes, the producers have but one choice and that is to keep up with your demand.

Chapter 6 discusses ways to help you see the signs of porn addiction and how to seek help if you are a “Pornaholic”

I leave you with a quote from Jack Johnson’s  “Cookie Jar”

“It was you, it was me, it was every man; We’ve all got the blood on our hands.  We only receive what we demand and if we want Hell then Hell’s what will have”
