Facts, Fiction, and the Christian Right

Regular readers of the discourse will recall that I have not had a lot of positive things to write about the Christian right.  I believe they are nothing more than a pandering, money-hungry group more interested in procuring wealth than proclaiming the gospel.  As election season looms, I felt it necessary to reiterate a few of my positions and offer up some examples of what I mean…

Abortion

I have noticed that if a Democrat if pro-choice, he will be hammered on the issue over and over, portrayed as someone who delights in taking a chainsaw to the heads of unborn children…BUT….if a Republican is pro-choice (or has a pro-choice record and says he is pro life) Christians are (a little too) willing to overlook the issue.

BOTTOM LINE… In my humble opinion, if a candidate is pro-choice, a Christian has no business voting for him/her.

Fidelity

Republicans, and even Christians have no high ground on the issue.  Newt G is the perfect example…he got married, had an affair, married his mistress, had an affair with a staffer, divorced his second wife and married the staffer.  It was during the Lewinsky scandal that Newt was having his second affair, and Newt was helping spearhead the investigation and the loudest critic of Clinton.

BOTTOM LINE….There have been just as many (if not more) sex scandals involving Republicans and Christians as there have been ones involving Democrats.  Let’s focus on our plank and not their speck.

Wise Spending

George W. Bush was no in any way a fiscal conservative.  Republicans and Democrats both are guilty of unwise use of taxpayer dollars.

A Final Word…

My point is this: Conservative and Christian radio have long had an unfair slant and a blind eye when it comes to the faults, failings and shortcomings of Republican candidates.  I believe the media, especially Christian media, should be promoting Christian values, not Republican values…they aren’t the same, nor have they ever been the same.  Vote Christian.
