Paradox

Sometimes you just don’t fit in a box…

And sometimes that makes people mad…

I’m a Conservative

I don’t watch Fox News. I can’t stand Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh.  I hardly ever agree with Ann Coulter.  I do believe that sometimes the free market needs a bridle in order to ensure fairness (ala Sherman Anti-Trust).  And I can admit when a liberal has a good idea.

I’m a Christian

I am not a huge fan of Focus on the Family or Family Research Council as I believe these organizations long ago gave into the temptation of political pandering and posturing and stopped being about their first love.  Janet Mefferd has no business on Christian radio and belongs on Fox News.

I believe that just because someone doesn’t act, think, and believe the exact same things I do doesn’t mean they aren’t a Christian.  And I don’t equate patriotism and Christianity…nor do I believe we should ever pledge allegiance to the American flag at a civilian church service, nor celebrate American holidays nor have American flags displayed prominently during the service.  Jesus died for everyone, not just Americans or Republicans or those that love America.

I’m a Liberty Univ. Grad

as well as a current student in their seminary.  They are the complete antithesis of everything I have written thus far; frequently equating politics, patriotism, and posturing with being a good Christian.

In Conclusion

I could go on and on about how my beliefs do not line up with the beliefs of those who supposedly represent me.  My point is simply this; no matter what you or your friends believe…get to know them.

Don’t assume that some national figure can in any way represent them or who they are or what they fully believe because if you do, you will be missing out on the complexities and the shades of grey that make us who we are.
