It never hurt to do a little research…
Here are some excellent movie knowledge sites that can help as you research both new and old films…
IMDB
IMDB stands for Internet Movie DataBase and is by leaps and bounds the largest and most popular database of movies on the internet. You can search actors, movie titles, quotes and more. You can also do cross searches i.e. “What movies were Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in together” etc… IMDB is the standard when it comes to movie information and trivia.
Rotten Tomatoes
What would movies be without critics? Rotten Tomatoes grabs ratings from a plethora of critics and puts them all on one page for your viewing pleasure. The good thing about R.T. (Rotten Tomatoes) is that it offers a variety of opinions on movies, not just one.
Also, if you sign up for a free account at RT you can discover and follow critics whose movie tastes are similar to that of your own. RT is a good site to visit if you want to keep a finger on the pulse of what’s going on in movies.
Screen It
Screen It is a unique website geared towards parents and those with a conservative slant. Screen It’s parental review system will tell you how much drug use, profanity, sex, nudity, violence and disrespect are shown in a movie. So before you send little Suzie or Jimmy off to see the latest action flick, you can check it out on Screen It and see exactly what is going to be shown in the movie.
Screen It also does artistic reviews, but I recommend Rotten Tomatoes if you are interested in that kind of review. Screen It offers both a free version and a paid version of their service.
In Conclusion
If you are a movie lover and want to be more educated and up to date on what is going on in Tinsletown, I recommend these sites. They will help you make more informed decisions when it comes time to head out to the big screen or the local video store for a night in.
Until next time…
