Theology apology

I am no theologian but I wanted to share something that has been on my mind lately.  If the following offends you in any way, I humbly ask you to consider my point and take in my words before allowing anger to cloud your mind.

In many Christian circles today words like “apologetics", “theology", and others similar to them are rarely spoken and if one does mutter them they are treated like four letter words. Unfortunately, many Christians have been led to believe that taking a firm stance (or any stance at all) on various doctrinal issues is wrong, narrow-minded, and just plain antiquated; however, this could not be further from the truth.

Many times when confronted with theological issues a Christian who believes in the “no stance is a good stance” doctrine will retort  with a phrases such as “I don't really get into all of that, I just love Jesus" or “I dunno, I mean can’t we all just be right”.

The problem with such statements is that when considered carefully, they are intrinsically illogical due to the axiomatic self contradiction contained within. If one “loves Jesus" then they will want to know more about Him and how to please Him.

It's like a musician saying that he loves music but refuses to study the guitar because he is afraid he might offend a drummer or a violinist.  If one truly loves music and desires to learn more about the guitar they will study those beautiful strings  and those who strummed before them such as B.B King or Eric Clapton.

This goes for anything in life; if one truly has a passion they will study it, they will learn more about it,they will delve deep into the the fine intricacies of whatever their passion may be.

Jesus Christ and those who love Him should be no different.  We should be constantly studying the word of God and as a consequence studying the various meanings and intricacies of Scripture. We should look to the words of those who studied Christ before us and glean as much as we can from these giants of the faith…these scholars of Scripture.

One cannot truly enter into a real study…one done thoroughly and completely… without coming away from said study with a new, fresh perspective and a deeper sense of who Christ is, who they are, and what He is trying to convey through His word. Simply put: not taking a stance is not a real, true logical option for those who proclaim the name of Christ.
