The Lost Art of Letter Writing

Email may be quick and convenient, but it will never replace the feel of a real letter…

Recently I stumbled across this article on the excellent blog “The Art of Manliness”.  It reads about letter writing and how it is still in art form that is appreciated by many people.  Think for a second…what would you rather have five years from now?  A love letter or a love e-mail?  A touching note from a friend in a time of despair or an e-card?

I am by no means the expert on writing letters…in fact I am downright horrible at it.  When I was in Iraq I received many many letters from a plethora of people but I failed to write some of them back; I should have written every one of them back.  In a day and age when websites and blogs, networking sites and photo sharing are the norm, letter writing just didn’t make sense to me…but now it does.

So I purchased some GreenRoom stationary the other day and made a commitment to write more letters.  So far, so good I have written four letters (soon to be five) in four days.  I am starting with family and working my way out.

For those who are looking for a little more elegance in their canvas, you can purchase premium (and of course expensive) stationary from Crane & Company

Give it a shot and start writing again.  Nothing can beat a palpable piece of paper with handwritten ink strewn across its body.  It doesn’t have to be a novel, a simple one pager will do if you are a man or woman of few words.  Your friends, family, loved ones and colleagues will definitely appreciate it.
