Sunrise...Sunset...Sunrise...Sunset...Ok, enough fiddler on the roof. Today's reading covers Joseph interpreting the cupbearer's, baker's and Pharaoh's dream, Joseph becoming second in command over all of Egypt, a brief record of Joseph's sons, Joseph's brothers journey to Egypt and Joseph holding Simeon hostage.
As you can see, pretty much all of this reading is purely expository i.e. the recounting of facts. I have but a few notes:
In vv 51-52 of ch. 41 Joseph names his two sons. It is interesting to note how the names mean forgetful and fruitful because God had made him forget all his trouble and God had made him fruitful in the land of his affliction.
When interpreting dreams Joseph was always careful to give all the credit to God. If anyone had a reason to be angry with God, Joseph did, yet instead he chose to give God all the glory and honor; this shows that even in times of great and inexplicable persecution Joseph still trusted God.
