All At Once...Tiger Woods Style

tiger_woods_family

Not too long ago I wrote a post entitled "All At Once" as well as a follow up.  In it I basically said that life seems to throw a multitude of things on us all at once;  remember that you will  reap (gather) what you sow (plant)

No one knows that better than the golf legend himself, Tiger Woods.  Not too long ago he was hailed as a hero when he won the 1997 Masters by a commanding margin.  He had endorsement deals from everyone around; from cars to shoes to food, Tiger was everywhere.  He had more money and fame thrown on him in one year than most of us will ever see.

Flash forward to 2009 and it is a completely different story.  He has (reportedly) cheated on his beautiful wife with six ten different women.  One report has him engaging in rough sex with one of his mistresses while his wife was pregnant.

My point is this, Tiger's personal and public life are pretty much in shambles right now.  Everything, once again, seems to be happening all at once.  For me, I can only ask one question: Why?  Why would a man with a beautiful wife, more money and fame than 90% of the world and a golfing talent that is virtually unmatched feel the need to sleep around on his wife.  He had to know that it would come out eventually, he had to have been somewhat aware of the consequences of his actions?

Now, before I go any further, I confess that I have made a lot of very bad decisions in my life, probably more than Tiger.  I am not condemning him, I am simply offering my opinion as to why I believe he did what he did.  I believe he learned that money, fame, and even a beautiful wife could not bring him lasting fulfillment.  No matter how many new SUV's he bought, or how many women he slept with or how many different sexual situations he put himself in or how many golf trophies he won or how much public approval he got, he was still unhappy.  Sure, he was thrilled for a season, but it kept fading.

Another man once lived who had more money than Tiger and more fame than him and most likely a lot more sex than Tiger with a lot more women.  He came to the conclusion that it was all useless, all pointless.  His name was Solomon and most consider him to be the wisest, richest man that ever lived.  He had 700 wives and 300 concubines and more money than can be imagined.

There is hope, however, as Christ said in John 4 that "whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."  So, I kindly ask that you seek not your joy in what this world has to offer but instead store up your treasures in heaven when neither thieves nor rust reside and the joy is everlasting.
