Criminal versus In-House

Some of you may have heard this, others of you have not but dozens of students were arrested and face criminal charges over a food fight…

Yes, you heard me right, a good ole’ food fight at a Chicago charter school ended with dozens of arrests and possible pending charges to be filed.  There is little doubt in my mind that this is a direct result of this incident (graphic video) where a bystander was killed during a vicious gang fight in Chicago in October.

Personally I believe this makes the school look not only silly but incompetent.  It reminds me of the 911 call where a mom wanted the cops to come and take care of her unruly daughter.  Woman, control your child, Chicago, control your students.  If they broke the in-house rules, suspend them, expel them, make them clean it up, etc…

Yes, I understand police officers are there to serve and protect the community, but did a bunch of 11-14 year old kids really need arrest records for a simple food fight just because you feel the need to prove to the world that your school’s are indeed safe?  What are your thoughts?
