Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to go back to basics…
Betwixt hidden agendas, inflammatory rhetoric and the basic failings of man lies The Truth. I am by no means perfect nor do I claim to be the foremost expert of the ways of Christ; if I am anything it is a failure who has learned the hard way that my way is not His way…the only way which will lead to life.
So, if you will permit me, I would like to introduce you to some basic Christian terms along with their meanings and how to apply the stated principles to one’s daily life. I will also offer resources that will allow you to dig deeper into the Christian faith that go along with the topic at hand.
So, the first terms I would like to introduce you are:
- Condemnation:
- Condemnation is what we all, as human beings, face due to our sin nature. We were born into sin because of the sin of Adam (the first man) and are unable to do anything about it on our own. We are condemned to an eternity separated from God due to our sin.
- Salvation:
- There are eight Hebrew terms and six Greek terms that are translated into English as “Salvation”. It mainly means “to save” “to escape or bring through a danger” “to live”. Due to our condemnation we are in need of a true savior who can provide salvation, a way to save us from an eternity without God. The Bible makes it clear that the only one who is worthy to save us is Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God.
So, in a nutshell, you cannot be saved on your own. No amount of money or good works can save you; no person whether they be living or dead can save you. Only Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, has the power to save you and to forgive you of your sins.
