Romell Broom was schedule to die by lethal injection on September 15th, 2009. One problem, the prison staff could not find one usable vein on his body. Even Romell Broom attempted to help them find one, he actually assisted the staff in his own attempted execution, but to no avail. Finally, after TWO HOURS the prison director contacted the governor and Mr. Broom was granted a one week reprieve. (later Broom was granted a hearing in Court- at the time I am writing this Mr. Broom is still alive)
Romell Broom has maintained his innocence and still does maintain his innocence even after the botched execution. His failed execution, sadly is not the first. Willie Francis was the first recipient of a failed execution, only his was by electric chair.
Ohio will now try a new method of lethal injection this Tuesday to make up for the botched attempt on Broom. Now, instead of three injections, the condemned will only receive one. If it doesn't work, they will get one of two back up poisons. Hopefully they won't have to rely on the prisoners help this time.
